Cassie + Kellen’s Midwest mid-June wedding day began with a temperate sunrise followed by a mid-morning deluge. Subsequent rising temperatures created a “real feel” of STICKY. Rain, shine, or high humidity, the bride + groom were both so very ready to say yes to forever with each other.
After dropping her dress off at the church, the bride made her way to the hair salon for a becoming half updo. Upon her return, her makeup artist applied a beautiful, natural look. The bride and her mom were soon joined by four bridesmaids. A sandwich luncheon ensued. As the mealtime ended, the bridesmaids vacated to get ready in another area while the bride’s mother helped her dawn a sparkly A-line gown, which was fitted with sheer cap sleeves and a sweetheart neckline. A first look with the bridesmaids brought the expected delight and awe.
(Special note: The bride wore a very special something blue on her right hand by way of a ring lent to her by her 99 year old great grandmother. This was an extra sentimental adornment as the great grandmother was sadly unable to attend.)
In the meantime, the gentlemen, who had been getting ready at the groom’s brother’s house, arrived on the scene. It was time for another first look. As the bride made her way down the stairs in the foyer of the church, the groom waited in anticipation. At her word, he turned and moved to embrace his bride. The groom later denied any tears, but photographic evidence suggests he at least had something in his eye. Pearl earrings were bestowed upon the bride, and a new Bible was given to the groom. Heartfelt cards were exchanged.
The bridal party braved the heat for a few photos and then retreated to the church sanctuary along with family for formal photos. The bridal party then retreated to their respective areas for some rest, snacks, and prayer prior to the ceremony.
The ceremony found the groom once again looking a bit emotional as his bride entered the sanctuary. The officiant brought a message regarding the words Kingdom and Commitment corresponding with the couple’s initials as well as their love for Kansas City sports teams. He took the opportunity to dawn a Royals hat embroidered with a bold white “KC” to help underscore his message. Guests and wedding party alike found this humorous. The groom was later overheard telling the bride she said her vows a little loud. She let him know that is how glad she was to be saying them! After exchanging rings and sealing their vows with a kiss, Cassie + Kellen were pronounced husband and wife. A jubilant dance down the aisle led to another, longer kiss and hug in the foyer as well as many hugs from bridal party to the couple. The groom assisted his wife into the back of a candy apple red Z-71, joined her, and they were whisked off to dance the night away at Heritage Hall in downtown Liberty.
Many bridesmaids made light work of bustling the bride’s train at the reception hall. Following a grand entrance from the wedding party, the couple danced their first dance to Life With You by Kelsey Hart. After a blessing from the officiant, the guests were all treated to a delicious buffet meal by Zarda BBQ, as well as an entire wall of cake. After the appropriate signatures were added to the marriage license, heartfelt toasts were given at the head table. Laughter and tears, both, were a result. The bride and groom then enjoyed cutting their own darling cake and feeding each other a morsel. Father/daughter and mother/son dances brought more tender moments. A reverse anniversary dance brought what eventually became a large crowd to the dance floor. There were more couples still coming as the DJ asked for those married over 45 years. Many more precious moments were shared as couples came together and celebrated their own unions.
The bride + groom then danced the night away, briefly stealing away for a few photos, and promptly returning to the dance floor. After such a precious, eventful day, the couple had the additional excitement of a chorus of tornado sirens blasting all across town as a storm with rotation passed through. Thankfully, no tornado accompanied the sirens!
Cassie + Kellen, your regard and care for one another is beautiful. You’ve spent your lives hoping and waiting for each other. It seems to me, it was worth the wait! I wish you great joy + blessings in your life as husband and wife!
Love, Angela
